❤️So you’ve done all you can to try to raise an adventurous eater and now, things are about to change. Welcome to the picky stage of toddlerhood – and it typically starts at about 16 months of age.🤦🏼‍♀️

✨Why?✨Well…

1.✨During baby’s first year of life, their weight often triples, but for toddlers, growth slows down significantly after the first birthday. Appetite slows down and they just don’t need as much when their growing at a slower rate.

2.✨They are “toddling” and busy! They don’t have the attention span to sit for very long, and sitting in a high chair just isn’t as interesting as almost anything else!

3.✨They have learned to say “no” and that’s exactly what they are supposed to do at this age. This rapid increase in cognitive and language skills is mind blowing!

4.✨This is the age of hesitancy about new things, new people, new foods, new almost anything.

🤔What to do about it?

1.✨Be consistent: Keep offering small portions (1 TB) of a variety of foods. Be careful not to reach for the same flavor yogurt or the same toast every morning – change it up at least slightly by stirring or spreading a no-sugar added jam or a bit of creamy peanut butter. Small changes like this helps your child be more comfortable with “flexibility” and that’s what makes an adventurous eater over time!

2.✨Stay calm: Toddlers tend to eat “well” one day and then go for days barely eating much at all. If you’re concerned, take photos of the plates before and after serving and keep a record of the week. You can always show those to your pediatrician if you’re worried about your child’s nutritional health.

3.✨Learn all you can – because this stage can last till age 3. Comment COURSES to get a link AND A DISCOUNT CODE to my entire course library sent directly to you DMs! From bottle weaning, paci weaning to picky eating, my courses are here to help you navigate all the stages of feeding babies, toddlers and big kids too!

🌭🥪Got left-over hot dogs buns? Try my hack – especially for picky eaters, lunches on the go and well, because it’s fun!

❤️I’m using @traderjoes organic creamy peanut butter because it’s so smooth and spreadable – that’s important when serving nut butters to young toddlers. Remember to spread it thinly! Thick globs of peanut butter can be chokable in kids under age 3 or 4.

🩷I am also generous with @eatsmashfoods Superfood Jam with no added sugar and that extra nutrition boost of chia! Have you tried them? YUM!

🤔Why flatten the soft hot dog rolls, you ask? Soft, squishy breads are also a choking hazard for babies and toddlers. When you flatten it, not only does it roll easier, it takes out the “sponginess” that can make it challenging to swallow safely.

💕Tell me, do you love PBJ the way I do? It makes me feel like a kid again, and these roll-ups are extra fun for the whole family!
